Updating a room with new paint is an inexpensive and relatively easy way to redecorate the whole house.
Painting is one of those home projects that’s so simple, you’ll want to do it yourself!
But many people decide against painting trim because they think about taping off every inch for themselves – which can be enough to turn some away from even starting on this task at all.
The good news?
It actually isn’t difficult at all (and doesn’t have as much precision) if we teach ourselves how first…
Here are the simple steps on how to paint trim without tape:
-Start by priming and painting all of the baseboards and moldings in your room white or a light color. This will give you a solid foundation for your top coat, no matter what color you choose.
-Once the primer is completely dry, take a brush and start painting in between the trim and the wall. You don’t need to be precise – this is where some of that “wabi sabi” comes into play! The goal is just to have an even coat over all of the trim. If you do make any mistakes, they can easily be fixed with a touch-up later on.
-Allow the paint to dry completely, then apply a second coat if necessary.
-Once everything is completely dry, take a step back and admire your handiwork!
You’ve just successfully painted trim without tape – and it looks great.
Time to move on to the next room.
Some people like to use a small foam roller for this job, as it helps to get into all of the nooks and crannies. If you’re using a darker color on your trim, be sure to test it out first on an inconspicuous spot so that you can make sure you like the final outcome.
And always remember: have patience and go slowly!
Rushing through a paint job will only lead to mistakes – so take your time and enjoy the process.
